Women who are 2 weeks pregnant actually have very busy bodies setting the stage for the baby. It is imperative to understand what went about in a woman’s body before actually conceiving.
In retrospect, about a week ago the ovaries were cradling ripening eggs in fluid-sacs which are called follicles. The uterus also fashioned a blood-filled tissue lining to support a fertilized egg. Then around day 14 of a 28-day cycle, ovulation occurred – an egg burst out of its follicle and ventured all the way from the ovary into a fallopian tube. It had been a miraculous adventure for the sperm – the sole survivor among about 400 others – in fertilizing this egg, a process of burrowing through the latter’s outer membrane.
Also, take note that it was before this week when the sperm nucleus merged with the egg and mixed their genetic substance into one. It may not be distinguished yet at this point but if the lucky sperm carried an X chromosome (coiled DNA filled with genes), then expect a girl; if it brought about a Y chromosome, a fine young man is on his way. The fertilized egg, scientifically referred to as a zygote, had itself divided into 16 identical cells. It burrowed into the lining of the uterus and development is in progress.
2 weeks pregnant women are now carrying a blastocyst – a tiny ball of cells with an inner cell mass that will later on become the embryo. In the blastocyst, there is also an outer cell mass that will become the placenta and the soon-to-be amniotic sac which is now just a fluid-filled cavity.
A woman is considered to be 2 weeks pregnant when fertilization occurs. This happened because love-making probably took place 72 hours before ovulation or 24 hours after. Because of the success that is fertilization, conception began. A practitioner can calculate a baby’s gestational age and a woman’s due date using the first day of the last menstrual period. As pregnancy lasts about 37 to 38 weeks from conception, it’s hard to be certain on when the egg and sperm merged that’s why doctors count 40 weeks of pregnancy beginning with the last period.
Prepping the body
Now that a developing baby is being conceived, it may be advised to lay off and totally stop vices like smoking and drinking, not to mention any form of drug intake that might be harmful for the baby. There is no safe measure of drinking liquor as there is no safe way to say that a certain number of cigarettes will not harm the baby. If the mom-to- be is not a smoker, she should still avoid places where second-hand smoking could be harmful to both her and the little one.
Though not all women have any idea that they are pregnant at this point in time, those who are aware of the pregnancy should go see a health care provider for a check-up. Prenatal or multivitamins will be prescribed to ensure that the baby will be growing in a healthy and normal pace. This is also to minimize the risk of birth defects. These supplements should be taken everyday unless specified otherwise by a doctor.
Aside from baby care from the inside, a woman who suspects that she is pregnant should avoid lifting heavy objects such as furniture and groceries so as to prevent having a miscarriage. Having said this, it will be a wise move to watch the caffeine consumption as too much of it might pave way for a higher risk of miscarriage.
Every woman has a different pregnancy story and experience since not one person has the same body with another. Suspecting women might be looking for signs of pregnancy such as nausea, breast tenderness and the like but these do not usually come at early 2 weeks. It might happen for some and others might notice a few things if they are well-aware of their menstrual cycle.
Some home pregnancy tests will project a negative result depending on the sensitivity of the product. At this point, a woman might not feel pregnant at all. However, if a woman suspects she is pregnant and still get a negative pregnancy test, waiting a few more weeks to do another test is advisable as pregnancy hormones might not kick in at once when conception began.
If there is only little hope for now that a woman is pregnant, she and her partner could actually do a number of preparations for conception.
As mentioned earlier, chances of fertilizing an egg are higher when sex is aimed possibly at 72 hours before ovulation or 24 hours after. Of course, it is imperative for a couple to know when the woman will be fertile (usually 5 days before ovulation and ends on the first day). Her partner should also have a healthy sperm to make the merge successful. A healthcare provider or a fertility expert may be approached to further understand what must be done to conceive. Conception, before achieved, should happen through careful and wise timing. Take note and not lose heart that some couples try a lot of times before finally thanking God for a bundle of joy in the making.
If trying to conceive starts to get frustrating, people usually tend to submit to few practices that might boost their chances. There is really no scientific evidence to back-up that there are indeed sexual positions that can lead to conception. There is only proper timing, prayers, and perseverance. Also, there are beliefs that when certain foods are devoured, they actually increase fertility. Aphrodisiacs are also some to begin with. These – among others – are again not supported by scientific bases and are thus not recommended. Other couples might say that trying this and that worked for them but it cannot be deemed to be as effective with others. As it might get tiring to try, never look at trying to conceive as a chore. Remember that there are a lot of things to consider to finally make that baby announcement.
