Missing out on your period is said to be the closest sign to tell you are pregnant followed by a pregnancy test or a visit to your ob-gyne. By that time, you actually could have already been pregnant for three weeks. This is because conception could start as early as the next day you made out without you knowing or noticing.
Aside from consulting with your doctor, there are many websites or cellphone applications that calculate conception as well as your fertile days, the day of your ovulation and your expected date of delivery. Over the counter ovulation kits are also available. Still, it is beneficial to do the math manually when it comes to planning your pregnancy. We call it, conception calendar.
Knowing your Fertile days
Finding out the date of conception goes hand in hand with calculating the days that you are fertile. Pregnancy relies heavily on the woman than in the man with regards to finding the right timing.
It all starts with knowing your fertile days. But finding your fertile days will be easy if you have a regular menstrual cycle which means having your period every after 28 to 30 days or sometimes a few days more.
Fertility is determined from the 10th to 17th day from the first day of your last menstruation period. Let’s say your first day of menstruation is expected on March 22. Your first day of fertility then would be March 31 and will continue until April 7. Therefore, the best days to work on your baby is from March 31 to April 7 because the possibility of getting pregnant is within those days.
A white discharge that is clear, sticky and slippery in consistency as in eggwhites is a sign that you are fertile. Experiencing more slippery and wet fluid means you are at the peak of fertility and it is the best day to make love. Other fertile signs are having a high basal body temperature which is the temperature when you are at rest. This is effectively taken in the morning while lying in bed after a light activity like walking. Increase in libido is another indication of fertility. Some doctors however recommend doing it every other day to allow your partner’s sperm to improve its quality. Although you only have a few chances in one week, there is also a great prospect to hit it even when not doing it everyday.
Knowing your fertility days is not enough. You should keep track of your ovulation too. Ovulation usually happens on the 14th or 16th day of menstruation (1 or 2 days before the end of your fertility) wherein fully developed egg cells are released making it available to be fertilized by the sperm. Finding out when you will ovulate increases your chance of getting pregnant. Sperm can live inside your body for 3 to 5 days. That’s why it is important that a sperm is already in your body by the time you ovulate. The egg can live up to 24 hours once it ovulates so it has to be fertilized within the day.
Ovulation kits can also be depended on. If positive, it means you have to have intercourse within your ovulation period. If you feel you have dried up, it means your ovulation has ended.
By knowing your fertility days and the date of ovulation, you and your partner could have the freedom to choose a specific date you want your baby born, and yes, even its gender. Making love before ovulation produces a baby boy while making love after ovulation is said to produce a baby girl. Being aware of your body when it comes to fertility, you can also be able to adjust whether you already want a baby or not.
Conception calendar: When did I get pregnant?
Some women would not want to know when they started being pregnant but it is also a good thing to learn when conception starts.
A baby is conceived when a healthy sperm and egg cell meet. When a man ejaculates, millions of sperm are somewhat all in a hurry into the uterus of a woman wherein only one with the best quality survives and combines with the egg cell. That’s why it is important that the cervical mucus is slippery and you are not dry for them to be able to swim well. After the sperm and the egg meet they will begin to form a new cell which will make up your baby.
To be able to know when you have started conceiving, through your manual conception calendar, count 11 up to 21 days from the first day of your last period. The probability that you have started to conceive will depend on this days. In this case, assuming that you and your partner will start to get it on the first day of your fertility which was earlier mentioned as March 31, you might conceive as early as April 1 to April 9.
For women who don’t know who the father of the baby they’re carrying is, knowing the exact date when you started conceiving could save you.
Your baby’s due date
A baby normally lives in the womb for 40 weeks. To be able to know the date it is due, count 40 weeks or 280 days from the first day of your last period. In this case, if you missed your period by April and have found out that you are pregnant, it is likely that you will give birth nine months after, and that is by December 27, 2014, earlier or a little later.
There are actually different formulas for calculating your baby’s due date but some are quite confusing and complicated. Remember though that this is just an estimate and this may not be exact. Knowing the probability of giving birth will just give you an idea when to prepare going to the hospital and other needed preparations.
The pregnancy calculations on knowing ones fertility and when it is best to have a baby, to the time of conception and the date of delivery could not work for everyone especially that a woman’s body varies from others. But keeping statistics and methods in mind will give you an idea and somehow help you in a way to get pregnant. But the odds are there. All you have to do is plan carefully and do it at the perfect time.
